Cluster Development Initiative (CDI) under World Bank's Punjab Jobs & Competitiveness Program that is based on Cluster Development Process introduced by Michel E. Porter of Harvard Business School.
The CDI methodology will combine strategic analysis with cluster change management tools, this initiative is being executed through a cohort of high quality, motivated and capable Cluster Managers to run an integrated cluster development program.
CDI with the coordination of UNIDO, will develop and implement Competitive Reinforcement Initiatives (CRIs) – packages that are based on the selection of clusters within priority sectors and areas within their operations which exhibit high potential for improvement and/or growth and incorporate plans for working with the firms involved to deliver these outcomes.
Delivery of the CRIs may be underpinned by project funding for expert consultants to advise firms within the selected clusters. The areas of activity within CRIs can be expected to include:
• Production and management processes
• Developing new products
• Market development
• Global value chain integration
• identifying industry infrastructure and regulatory impediments
• Promoting backward linkages, through linking local SMEs with larger manufacturers
Auto sector being one of the most significant contributor to national economy has been included in the said project for future interventions.
